Singapore wedding photographer - Ernest + Xin

Singapore wedding photographer
This story started at the end of 2016, when Ernest emailed me about his plan. He and his girl friend were going to come to Budapest, to the city they had both visited before and had both liked and Ernest wanted to propose on 1st of January 2017. We talked about the possible locations and settled on the square in front of Fishermans Bastion. It was a very cold and foggy winter day and the trees were frosty, giving the morning a really magical atmosphere. They arrived sipping hot coffee, Xin sat down on a bench and Ernest got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Ernest had an other surprise, whilst they prayed together, their families showed up as they had also flown in to celebrate.
Fast forward a couple of months and they were organising their wedding for that summer. So Ernest got in touch with me again, and kindly invited me to document their wedding in Singapore. We started discussing the possibilities and of course I was more than happy to fly over to Singapore to meet them again. It's hard to get to know kinder people than Ernest, Xin and their families. They insisted that we (me and my family as we went over together) stayed with them in their house during our time in Singapore. Their warm hospitality was certainly something we will never forget.
The wedding was split up into a few sections. On the wedding day we started really early at dawn with getting ready, after which Ernest arrived, met Xin and her close family and then we all went to church together. The most important part of their wedding weekend in Singapore was definitely the church ceremony in St James' Church where more than 400 guests came to share their happiness. Ernest and Xin didn't want to have a full traditional wedding so they organised a dinner for their friends and the next evening an other one for their parents, family and their guests. This started with a tea ceremony where they both served tea to the family members. This is a formal introduction of the couple to each other's family and it is about paying respect. We spent a fantastic week in Singapore and got to know many wonderful people in the meantime.

Being a Singapore wedding photographer was an absolute dream and I can't wait to go back.

Copenhagen elopement portraits

Copenhagen Elopement Photography - Anni + Luke

Elopements are fabulous! An elopement in Copenhagen is even better. It is so nice and such an honour to share a full day with just a couple and no one else. Wedding photography is all about trust, and it's even more true when photographing elopements.  Anni  and Luke decided to be true to themselves and go low key on their wedding. They have lived in Copenhagen for a short while and it's their favourite city so it was an easy choice to get married there. Copenhagen has a a lot to offer, the City Hall (Radhus) is a beautiful building for not only the official ceremony, but for some portraits too. There are many cool cafes, restaurants and bars, namely one of them is the popular Mikkeller bar, where we went for a beer right after the wedding ceremony. The day was planned lightly, we wanted to go to some of their favourite locations to take portraits, and end up at the Copenhagen beach by sunset, where Anni and Luke read out their personal vows to each other. This was definitely the highlight of the day, with the beautiful area, majestic light and emotions flying high too. In the evening we went to the Meatpacking district and took some final portraits with the neon lights, which felt like we were in a movie. Here is to more elopements!

Wedding in Malta - Razzett l-Abjad - Catie + Mike

The party of the year starring Catie and Mikey.

Location: Wedding in Malta: Razzett l-Abjad
This is where both the ceremony and the dinner reception was held. There is this reoccurring  thing at weddings I photograph - which I love - where the couples are from different countries.  This time for example Catie is from Australia and Mikey is from Sweden. As Catie has some ancestors  in Malta they chose this semi-neutral location for their wedding. Their only wish was that they can spend as much time as possible with their friends. So we decided to go for some couple portraits in the middle of the day before the ceremony.  Well, this is obviously not a good idea especially in the summer heat in Malta, but a very good friend of mine who has just bought an old dilapidated palace in Zejtun was kind enough to let us in and use it as a beautiful backdrop for wedding portraits. The palace has beautiful features and a lot of character which I love and although it was quite messy with lots of old furniture everywhere the light and the mood was just perfect. The ceremony, dinner and the party were all outside underneath vine leaves.  The guests created a fantastic atmosphere. In fact Catie and Mikey chose not to have a wedding cake which would have interrupted the party. It was a testimony of how wonderful it is when two cultures come together and celebrate. The result was a wonderful and joyful wedding. The following day Catie and Mikey went to Gozo, the other main island in Malta for a short honeymoon, and we met up on one of the evenings to create some timeless wedding portraits by the sea.

This wedding from Malta was featured in the excellent wedding blog of Bride and Breakfast. Click here for the article.

Wedding couple in forest near Potsdam

Potsdam Wedding Photographer - Johanna + Chris

He is from Canada. She is from Germany. They met on a cruise ship whilst travelling around South America. After returning home he said to her Mum he would move to Germany. The rest is history as they say.
The getting ready and the wedding ceremony took place in Berlin near where Johanna and Chris live in the traditional looking Standesamt Schmargendorf but for the reception they wanted to find a location closer to nature. They did so near Potsdam by a lake in a restaurant called Landleben. The cocktail hour was outside with beautiful vistas over the lake but later the day they moved indoors for the dinner. They had a little campfire and they also organised a breakfast get together the morning after. Their aim was to spend as much time as possible with friends and family who flew in for the celebration from several countries.
As I always do, I travelled to the wedding location a full day earlier in order to have time to look around and get familiar with the area and look for potential spots for portraits. This time I found this particular area of the nearby forest with beautiful pine trees. We had about an hour to roam around the forest before getting back to spend the rest of the evening with all the guests.

Pre-Wedding photoshoot Budapest

Pre-Wedding photoshoot Budapest

Janel and Claus flew in from Hong Kong for their Pre-Wedding photoshoot Budapest. We were emailing each other for a while beforehand, and they told me they had no preferences of where we should go, they like the style of my photographs so I should just go ahead and do whatever I'd like to do with them. They just trust my decisions. This was obviously great to hear. I had some locations in my mind, but as always, sessions evolve on the day and it wasn't different on this day either. We were just walking around the Budapest Opera area first, looking for pockets of light, and trying to avoid the tourists, when they mentioned that their Airbnb place is just around the corner and they kind of like the look of the staircase. So I said sure let's have a look, why not. It proved to be a great spot just the way I love it, beautiful light coming through the window, kind of dark inside.
Dates are limited for the upcoming season so if you are in the process of planning your wedding in Budapest or anywhere else in Europe, or you would like to have pre-wedding portraits do get in touch soon.

London engagement photography with red coloured window

London Engagement Photography - Sarah + Simon

London has a special place in my heart. I used to live there several years ago when my wife lived there. I was fascinated by the city and I still am. I even published a book about London. Now I feel lucky because I have weddings and other photo sessions to regularly go back there for. There is just so much opportunity for London engagement photography. You can literally get off the tube at any station , start walking in any direction and you will find great spots to explore. This is exactly what we did with Sarah and Simon a couple of days before their wedding in Wimbledon. We initially started off in St. Dunstan in the East Church Garden which is a gorgeous little hide away spot not known by many, offers nice rugged backgrounds and some greenery, then we walked all the way to the South Bank stopping along the way here and there for more portraits. When I start planning a portrait session I start by discussing potential locations with the couples, locations which have a meaning to them. That I believe is important, I want them to relate to places and things and not only deciding based on prettiness. With time passing by this will create a stronger memory.

I'm always keen to return to London so let me know if you're planning a wedding there and let's start a conversation.

Mtahleb Malta wedding couple portrait by the sea

Olive Garden Mdina Wedding Photographer Malta - Rachael + Andris

Wedding Photographer Malta

When Rachael contacted me to be their wedding photographer Malta, I was very happy for obvious reasons. One, being a  destination wedding photographer and to travel and document someone’s love story in a beautiful location is not only a very special feeling but an honour. Two, I love Malta. My wife is Maltese. Though we live in Budapest, we spend quite some time there. I know Malta well the hidden no so well known spots, so I could suggest some amazing scenery to Rachael and Andris. Rachael is from Ireland and Andris is Latvian, but they live in Australia. So how on earth did they chose Malta then? Well, they love traveling, and wanted somewhere with nice weather and closer for their families then Australia.  Their wedding day in Olive Garden Mdina was beautiful. This is a superb venue with a great view of Mdina, and it’s especially beautiful at night when it is all lit up. (if you are in the search for any wedding venues Malta, this is a great choice) Due to some heavy downpour though we had to do some little changes but all these just added some more exciting an memorable time to their day. We have decided beforehand that the following day we would go out and explore one of the most beautiful coastal area in Malta, Mtahleb.

Dates are limited for the upcoming wedding season so if you are in the process of planning your wedding in Malta or anywhere else in Europe, do get in touch soon. Till then, I’d love to be your Wedding Photographer Malta.
