Mtahleb Malta wedding couple portrait by the sea

Olive Gardens Wedding Photography Mdina, Malta

Olive Gardens Wedding – Mdina, Malta

When Rachael contacted me to tell me that they are planning their wedding in Olive Gardens in Mdina and they would like me to be their wedding photographer , I was very happy for obvious reasons.

One, being a destination wedding photographer and to travel and document someone’s love story in a beautiful location is not only a very special feeling but an honour.

Two, I love Malta. My wife is Maltese. Though we live in Budapest, we spend quite some time there. I know Malta quite well, the not so well known, hidden spots, so I could suggest some amazing scenery to Rachael and Andris.

Rachael is from Ireland and Andris is Latvian, but they live in Australia. So how on earth did they chose Malta then?

Well, they love travelling and wanted somewhere with nice weather and closer for their families then Australia. Their wedding day in Olive Gardens Mdina was beautiful. This is a superb venue with a great view of Mdina, and it’s especially beautiful at night when it is all lit up. (if you are in the search for any wedding venues Malta, this is a great choice).

Due to some heavy downpour though we had to do some minor changes to the schedule but all these just added some more excitement to their memorable day. We have decided beforehand that the following day we would go out and explore one of the most beautiful coastal area in Malta, Mtahleb. The rocks and the view over the sea from above is magical. This is where we took some timeless portraits of them in the setting sun.

Reach out if you are in the phase of planning your wedding in Olive Garden, or check out this other beautiful venue here.

Matthias Church Wedding Photography | Felicia + Fredrik

Matthias Church Wedding Photography, Budapest

Certainly, the most important part of the day was the wedding ceremony in St. Matthias Church up in the Castle district. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves too much.

This is a wedding I am particularly proud of. Felicia and Fredrik are from Stockholm. They chose Budapest for their wedding day partly because Felicia has family roots here, and partly because of the beautiful views, locations and wedding venues Budapest offers.

They planned a big wedding. With many guests arriving from abroad, they organised a pre-wedding night get together in one of the ruin bars in the centre of the city. This was a great idea to meet and greet everyone and set the mood for the weekend.

Their wedding day started on the Buda side in an old beautiful villa – the Writer’s Villa. Most of the close friends and family members got ready there and that is where Felicia and Fredrik also had their first look.

As I mentioned before, their wedding ceremony was in Matthias Church. The church has a history of over a thousand years and even King Matthias had his wedding there.

This and possibly the best location in Budapest, makes it one of the most popular and best churches in Budapest in which to get married. It is surrounded with a beautiful square and narrow cobblestone streets. The view from just a few steps away is amazing. When you are up there, you are on top of Budapest.

Before the wedding ceremony began, the guests gathered in front of the church waiting for the bride to arrive. They all looked fantastically elegant as this was a black tie wedding.

The ceremony was beautiful in the old historical church and I loved seeing so many guests enjoying watching the couple exchange vows.

After the ceremony, they had a little, hour-long, reception on top of Fisherman’s Bastion to relax and to take in the beautiful panorama.

Following this event, the wedding dinner was held in Wenckheim Palace, which is mostly known as the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library. On weekdays it is the main branch of the largest library network in Hungary.

As typical of a traditional Swedish wedding, they had a very long dinner, which lasted around five hours. The dinner was filled with speeches from friends and family. This made an even very large wedding party, very intimate and emotional.

Writer's Villa Wedding Photography | Felicia + Fredrik

Writer’s Villa Wedding Photography, Budapest

Writer’s Villa is one of the most recent and exciting wedding venues in Budapest. It is situated in the beautiful surroundings of the Buda hills. It is a nineteenth-century villa, renovated brilliantly.

This villa is part of a group of properties called Brody Land, and its designed interior reflects their modern approach and artistic style. The lush garden has little-hidden spots, perfect for wedding portraits and as well as outdoor wedding ceremonies.

I would certainly recommend having your wedding at Writers’ Villa due to its wonderful atmosphere.

Felicia and Fredrik chose Writer’s Villa venue as the base for their wedding day. This is where close friends and some family members stayed. It is also where they got ready and had their first look too. See their whole wedding day here.

ELOPE SCOTLAND | Scottish Highlands Elopement

Elope Scotland | Alex + Noelle

Scottish Highlands Elopement

Noelle and Alex, although they live in Singapore, they decided to have an elopement in the Scottish Highlands.

They both work in the creative field so it was really nice to read Noelle’s email about their plans for their wedding and that they would like me to be their wedding photographer in Scotland.

Noelle is from Australia and Alex is from England but Scotland is close to their heart as they both love nature and the beautiful scenery in the Scottish Highlands. And more importantly, it is where Alex proposed.

They were looking at different options on where and how to elope in Scotland, and they chose the excellent location and hosts from Crear Weddings on the west coast of Scotland – for their Scottish Highlands wedding!

Eloping in Scotland

The day of the wedding was cold and windy as it is more often than not in this area, but beautifully sunny too. Only a handful of guests, their very close family, followed them along on their adventure.

They started the day by getting ready at the Crear wedding house, and then they went down by the beach where the actual ceremony took place. It was a lovely and emotional ceremony.

A Scottish Piper was part of the event and this added an extra level to the otherwise already perfect mood.  After the ceremony, we took a little break to warm up and finally we went out for a memorable walk to take some wedding portraits in the Scottish wilderness.

If you are planning a Scotland elopement,  let’s connect, I would love to hear from you.

Singapore wedding photographer

Singapore Wedding Photographer | Ernest + Xin

Singapore Wedding Photographer

Being a Singapore wedding photographer was an absolute dream, a dream which came true.
This story started at the end of 2016 when Ernest emailed me about his plan. He and his girlfriend were going to come to Budapest, to the city they had both visited before and had both liked and Ernest wanted to propose on 1st of January 2017.

We talked about the possible locations and settled on the square in front of Fishermans Bastion. It was a very cold and foggy winter day and the trees were frosty, giving the morning a really magical atmosphere.

They arrived sipping hot coffee, Xin sat down on a bench and Ernest got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Ernest had another surprise, whilst they prayed together, their families showed up as they had also flown in to celebrate.

Fast forward a couple of months and they were organising their wedding for that summer. So Ernest got in touch with me again, and kindly invited me to document their wedding in Singapore.

We started discussing the possibilities and of course, I was more than happy to fly over to Singapore to meet them again. It’s hard to get to know kinder people than Ernest, Xin and their families.

They insisted that we (me and my family as we went over together) stayed with them in their house during our time in Singapore.

Their warm hospitality was certainly something we will never forget.

The wedding was split up into a few sections. On the wedding day, we started really early at dawn with getting ready, after which Ernest arrived, met Xin and her close family and then we all went to church together.

The most important part of their wedding weekend in Singapore was definitely the church ceremony in St James’ Church where more than 400 guests came to share their happiness.

Ernest and Xin didn’t want to have a full traditional wedding so they organised a dinner for their friends and the next evening a second one for their parents, family and their guests.

This started with a tea ceremony where they both served tea to the family members. This is a formal introduction of the couple to each other’s family and it is about paying respect. We spent a fantastic week in Singapore and got to know many wonderful people in the meantime.

Copenhagen elopement portraits

Copenhagen Elopement Photographer | Anni + Luke

Elopements are fabulous! An elopement in Copenhagen is even better. It is so nice and such an honour to share a full day with just a couple and no one else.

Wedding photography is all about trust, and it’s even truer when photographing elopements. Anni and Luke decided to be true to themselves and go low key on their wedding.

They have lived in Copenhagen for a short while and it’s their favourite city so it was an easy choice to get married there.

Copenhagen has a lot to offer, the City Hall (Radhus) is a beautiful building not only for the official ceremony but for some portraits too.

There are many cool cafes, restaurants and bars, namely one of them is the popular Mikkeller bar, where we went for a beer right after the wedding ceremony.

The day was planned lightly, we wanted to go to some of their favourite locations to take portraits, and ended up at the Copenhagen beach by sunset, where Anni and Luke read out their personal vows to each other. This was definitely the highlight of the day, with the beautiful area, majestic light and emotions flying high too.

In the evening we went to the Meatpacking district and took some final portraits with the neon lights, which felt like we were in a movie. Here is to more elopements!

Gozo wedding portraits

Razzett L-Abjad Wedding Photography in Malta | Catie + Mike

The party of the year starring Catie and Mikey

Location: Razzett l-Abjad

This is where both the ceremony and the dinner reception was held. There is this reoccurring thing at weddings I photograph - which I love - where the couples are from different countries.

This time, for example, Catie is from Australia and Mikey is from Sweden. As Catie has some ancestors in Malta they chose this semi-neutral location for their wedding. Their only wish was that they can spend as much time as possible with their friends.

So we decided to go for some couple portraits in the middle of the day before the ceremony. Well, this is obviously not a good idea especially in the summer heat in Malta, but a very good friend of mine who has just bought an old dilapidated palace in Zejtun was kind enough to let us in and use it as a beautiful backdrop for wedding portraits.

The palace has beautiful features and a lot of character which I love and although it was quite messy with lots of old furniture everywhere the light and the mood was just perfect. The ceremony, dinner and the party were all outside underneath vine leaves.

The guests created a fantastic atmosphere. In fact, Catie and Mikey chose not to have a wedding cake which would have interrupted the party. It was a testimony of how wonderful it is when two cultures come together and celebrate. The result was a wonderful and joyful wedding.

The following day Catie and Mikey went to Gozo, the other main island in Malta for a short honeymoon, and we met up on one of the evenings to create some timeless wedding portraits by the sea.

This wedding from Malta was featured in the excellent wedding blog of Bride and Breakfast. Click here for the article.
